What Is The Difference Between Oatmeal and Oatbran?
Although they have almost the same amount of calories and fat content, oatmeal and oat bran aren't without significant distinctions on their own. When it comes to fibre and protein content, it is evident that oat bran has greater amounts of the two. A typical cup of oatmeal is approximately 8 grams of fibre and 12g of protein compared to oat bran's 18 pounds of fibre and 20 grams of protein.
But, when it comes to the other nutrients contents, the bran may be less nutritious than the oatmeal. The flour or grain was removed to create the bran, thereby leaving the bran devoid of certain nutrients originally found in the entire oat or grain.
Though both were derived from whole oatmeal, they are different items after they have been through different processes. After the oats were removed from their shells, they were then made into flakes of different sizes or thicknesses by the rolling process and then flattening. The rolled flakes that range between 0.3 to 1 millimetre thick are what we call 'the oatmeal.
Additionally, the oatmeal is taken as the entire ground groats or oats, whereas the oat bran is the bran component of the oatmeal. When it comes to the case that the bran is oat, the product is then subjected to several rollers that can, in turn, separate the bran from the other great components.
Furthermore, there is the oat bran. This bran is utilized in a variety of ways. It can enhance the bread flavour of muffins and cereals and can be used to pickle and wash dishes, particularly in Japan. The bran is added to bamboo shoots and boiling water to perform its cleaning job. When it comes to oatmeal, it has many other purposes. For example, in making porridge, oatmeal cookies, and cakes made of oatmeal, the ingredient is typically considered the primary ingredient. It is also employed to add thickening to canned meals like chilli con Carne. It can even be blended with alcohol-based drinks.
Summary:
1. The Oat bran contains more amount of fibre and protein in comparison to oatmeal.
2. The oatmeal comprises the entirety of the oat, while the bran is merely one of the brans of oatmeal.
3. The Oat Bran is believed as less nutritious in comparison to oatmeal due to some of the nutrients found in the cereal having been eliminated by dissolving the bran.
4. The cereal can also be utilized as a thickener, as a mixture in beverages that contain alcohol, or as an essential ingredient in oatmeal-based cakes and cookies. In contrast, oatmeal bran is used to improve bread or even as a dishwashing agent.
